VIDEO: Vela scores clinical goal against Italy
How many times do you see Vela score with his right foot?
“Not so often” should be the answer because as a player so accustomed to using his favourite left foot for sumptuous finishes, Vela rarely shows the clinical ability of guiding the ball home with his weaker foot.
But he did it today for his country, giving Mexico an early lead in their impressive 2-1 win over Italy.
Watch Vela’s finish.

no we see wenger rates him so highly!!!! A David Villa in the making!!!!
Now YOU see why Wenger rates him so highly. I’ve personally seen this boy as a class act waiting to shine ever since his Carling Cup stunners in 2008 but it seems like he has to cry and beg for a chance to play at Arsenal.
And I wonder if Wenger himself rates him highly, otherwise, Vela wouldn’t have only 2 (TWO) Premier League starts in his career since rejoining us in 2008. (at Pompey in May 2009 & at Blackburn in May 2010)
And yes, I know these up and down duties with Mexico have been a factor to his fitness and availability but Vela has been there for selection many times and Wenger overlooked him. It even seems like Arsene is happy bringing him off the bench when we’re chasing the game with 3 seconds to go.
Vela has never gotten the chance of consecutive starts to show what he’s got and all of a sudden, some fools are categorizing him with the Eduardo’s, Denilson’s and Silvestre’s who are pampered with chances and continue to prove what little help they are. (Eduardo may change, hopefully)
I hate to say this, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose Vela.
I agree completely with what you say except that the one you should be comparing him to in terms of 1st team chances is walcott.
Eduardo is understandable, although his form this year has been generally poor (although not quite as poor as people make out), he did look like a great player in the making before his injury and you can’t blame wenger for wanting to help him get back to that level. Also eduardo was rarely used in big/important games when better options were available.
Theo on the other hand has been given EVERYTHING so far in his career without really earning it (1st team chances, big contract). Undoubtedly he does have talent, but his form is so inconsistent, if he wasn’t english he would be the most hated arsenal player, far above denilson and silvestre imo.
Anyway, his form has been very poor really, and he hasnt proven to be someone that can be relied upon, yet he gets a 60k pw contract and a place in the team whenever he’s fit. Vela on the other hand was clearly the standout player in last season’s CC, and played better than any young/reserve player we’ve ever seen before in that competition on a consistent basis. Yet while theo has to do nothing for a 1st team place, young carlos gets 10minutes at the end of games – and he’s STILL done more with his time on the pitch than theo!
To be honest, the same could also be said of fran merida. I dont begrudge wenger giving theo a chance, but enough is enough, he hasnt proven himself yet, give him some time on the bench/reserves/on loan, and give someone else a go.
If vela had had anywhere near the chances theo has had by now he’d be looking pretty good i expect. Same goes for merida and wilshere.
Dont mean to be too negative about theo btw, it’s management that frustrates me, giving everything when he hasnt earned it at the expense of others. I expect him to be a very good player in the future, Id just appreciate it if he wasnt still learning on the job because it’s costing us.
Hold up now, Eduardo has just been hampered by injuries, he is deadly when fit and confident. Denilson is a very good player who will get better.
No doubt Vela is a class act but if his fitness is not good he cannot get a run of games. He comes on late due to not being fit.
now
Great ball by giovani as well if he meant it. I thought he looked impressive against england. I KNEW spurs had got a bargain there! Cant understand why barca let him go for so little.
I think the commentator must be the same bloke that runs carlosvelanews.com. Talk about carried away…..
I feel awful saying it but Eduardo needs to be sold or loaned out. The poor guy looks scarred for life and who can blame him. But loosing a future star in the making like Vela just to hold onto a pity case like Eduardo is foolish. Sounds shitty to even say that but its the truth.
Eduardo will be back to his best after the off season. You cannot judge the man based on last season based on all the difficulties, however he was playing well at the beginning of the season. Lets not forget that.
all i could recall is every time vela played last season he’s been poor… poor touches, got bumped off easily, couldn’t keep ball, fell readily, couldn’t dribble past defenders, little shooting and when did so missed glaring chances, poor crossing, … enough? vela is not as good as people think, well, at least not in the more physical EPL. also, when we needed him, he buggered off the south america or wherever the mexico team played and needed long time to recuperate after the trips.. that’s no good in my view
to be fair, walcott has similar problems BUT he did pull off several high profile chances/ assists and people remember those performances, up to a point (that’s why he missed out in the WC)
so all in all, both vela and walcott are poor though with apparently different treatment, or is that just luck?
IF, Vela impresses in the WC this year there is no doubt he’ll get a chance at Arsenal, OR some club will come calling!!! However, with Cham, Persie, B52, Eduardo…that’s too much firepower!
We need as many players as we can get with the many injuries we suffer. I think he will be at Arsenal for years to come.
Vela is still the unfinished product. Given enough playing time at The Arsenal, I believe he will go a long way to be a great striker.
