Theo Walcott has revealed the message he was trying to convey to Petr Cech during a tense moment in Sunday’s north London derby.
Arsenal were held to a draw for the second Premier League game at the Emirates stadium in a row as Tottenham Hotspur found an equaliser early in the second-half to secure a 1-1 result.
The goal which saw Arsene Wenger’s men pegged back by Maurichio Pochettino’s side was scored by Harry Kane who now has five goals in just four league appearances against Arsenal.
Even so, the 23-year-old Englishman did not find the net courtesy of a wonder strike this time as he converted a spot-kick after a contentious decision from referee Mark Clattenburg.
According to Walcott, he tried to tell Cech which way to dive as Kane stepped up to take the penalty-kick but his guess was completely wrong.
“It’s not for me to comment on the penalty. The referee makes the decision and we’ve got to respect that.” Walcott said after the match.
“I tried to give Petr a clue where Harry was going but I got that completely wrong in the end.”
