According to Arsene Wenger, Mikel Arteta is on the brink of a return to action after several weeks on the sidelines.
The Arsenal skipper has endured another campaign plagued by injuries, failing to start a game in the Premier League so far this season.
Arteta’s last appearance was over a month ago in the defeat at West Brom but the Spaniard has now resumed training after recovering from a calf problem.
“Arteta is back in training but is too short [of match fitness] to be selected in a competitive game.” Wenger said.
The 33-year-old’s current contract at Arsenal is set to expire in June 2016 with rumours indicating that the club could offer him a coaching role when his career comes to an end.
