Arsene Wenger has finally spoken on the status of Arsenal’s rumoured move for AS Monaco star Thomas Lemar with only a week remaining in the transfer window.

The Arsenal boss has only managed to secure the signings Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette so far with a couple of fringe first team players being offloaded.

Wenger has refused to rule out a third signing and for much of this summer, Thomas Lemar was expected to be one of the Gunners’ new additions.

However, the possible deal for the 21-year-old has lost momentum in recent weeks following three offers from Arsenal which have been turned down by Monaco.

As a result, Wenger has now admitted that a transfer move for Lemar is unlikely to happen this summer.

“It’s dead because Monaco has closed the door.” the Arsenal manager said during his press-conference on Thursday

“They are still on cases like Mbappe and Fabinho. They’ve already lost Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Bakayoko, so Monaco is at a stage where they have closed the door.”
