Wenger: ‘I may look for midfielders too’
Arsene Wenger may be on the quest for more than a striker next month.
The French tactician did not rule out the chance of recruiting a frontman after the win over Aston Villa and with his options continuously shortened by injuries, Wenger revealed he may strengthen depth in other areas of the squad.
The Arsenal boss has further hinted on his transfer plans by admitting he will shop for a midfielder should Fabregas and Denilson’s injuries from Sunday be anything severe.
“I’ve said we will keep our eyes open and if a good opportunity turns up we will do it. But at the moment I haven’t got any.” Wenger said.
“I will have to look maybe as well at midfielders and how big the damage is. If we lose Denilson and Fabregas we will be short there. I don’t know yet.”
The team will definately need strenghtening in midfield should the injuries to Febregas and Denilson prove serious. Also,we will be without Alex Song {ANC}.Not too concerned about the forwards, because Bendtner is close to being fit and Carlos Vela is also available. It would have to be someone really special.
“Not too concerned about the forwards”?
Carlos Vela whom you mentioned has always been available and if he was capable cover for RVP, we wouldn’t be crying for Gignac, Dzeko and co.
I do think Vela is quality though and only needs Wenger’s faith of getting some consecutive (4-5) starts on the trot. At least he can’t do worse than Eduardo at the moment.
Bendtner will be our ONLY gain among strikers next month if we fail to sign anyone while Eduardo is unreliable both with his form (check his miss in the 4th minute today) and fitness of course (where he gets a knock after every other game)
We DO need a striker added to the squad next month! Trust me, you won’t get Fabregas and Diaby scoring screamers from midfield to win 3-0 games every week.
What if Arsenal are short of midfielders after the January window? By then it is too late to buy and Arsenal’s ambition to challenge for the Premier will be scuppered! Why wait until the players are injured before deciding? To have a little more depth of players could be so assuring to the team! Don’t get me wrong. Arsenal have a lot of very talented youngsters but they are not quite into the first team.
I almost forgot that we will also lose Eboue to ANC as well.Anyway Randy,as i said,i will only agree with you about the urgent need for another striker if we can find someone special. The situation is not so desperate as we already have Arshavin filling in admirably, and i believe Eduardo is only a game or two away from hitting top form again. This would also give Vela the opportunity that you so rightly point out that he needs to show his true mettle. It is mostly the fans that i hear clamouring for Gignac,Dzeko and co.I am reminded of the cry before the start of the season for players like Felipe Mello, well he went to Juventus and has turned out to be a big flop at this early stage of the league,so much so that he was substituted in his last game and was jeered by the fans when he went off.Just a footnote, the bulk of our goals so far this season have not come from the established strikers in the team.
We need a striker and a defensive midfielder. Vela may grow into a great striker but still too inexperience and I don’t know if he can handle defenders who gets physical with him. As for DMs, we got Eastmon, Coquelin and Frimpong but they need a year or two to be first team players.
Prof d best thing now is to be on a lookout for atleast a midfielder and a striker also we can’t afford to end dis season again without a trophy we are almost fedup be wise
Prof d best thing to do now, is to be on a lookout for atleast a midfielder and a very strong striker allso we can’t afford to end dis season without a trophy we almost fedup be wise!
Prof you better act fast tomorrow maybe too late BE WISE like my fellow gunner said
January signing will b gignac n melo.. i think
i think arsenal should sign villa(yes i know ull think im nuts)but if the boss wants to get a class striker …theres on in valencia…ok enough of talking the impossible(coz of the boss, and not money)
i feel eduardo is super, and needs to get into some form…we have to fell for him coz hes been out for so long…..but gignac will bequite a good signing..
get carlsey as a dm he is cheap and good and get kanu or roberts for striker kanu is quick and he is unpredictable
“Kanu is quick”????
Hahahaha…please. I won’t say anything. Just watch him when we visit Fratton Park on Wednesday.
I don’t quite understand why people are so concerned about adding a forward and now a midfielder while ignoring the glaring issue of depth in defense. I really think it’s ludicrous to believe that Vermalean and Gallas will be able to play every single EPL and Champions League game. Even if they remain injury free, by April they’ll both be running on fumes. Wenger clearly doesn’t rate Senderos and the thought of Sylvestre being forced to play a long run of games really terrifies me. If Arsene buys in the transfer window, the highest priority on his shopping list should be a center back that’s better than Sylvestre. Really, I don’t think that’s asking too much.
Great
