Arsene Wenger has explained why he named an unchanged line-up for the FA Cup clash with Lincoln City on Saturday.
Following the demoralizing 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday, the Arsenal manager was expected to make a host of changes to his side for this weekend’s affair.
However, Wenger kept Lucas Perez on the bench once again while choosing to retain the likes of Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott, Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey and several others in his starting eleven against Lincoln City.
According to the French tactician, he simply did not want to jeopardize the Gunners’ chances of avoiding another embarrassment against the non-league outfit.
“I didn’t want to gamble today because I knew that it was very important to win the game and I felt as well that the team had performed well against Bayern and I wanted to give them a chance to find their confidence back by winning the next game.” the Arsenal boss said
“That’s why I maintained 90 per cent of the players in the starting line-up. They have been hit very hard after the game [against Bayern] and that is always dangerous because your confidence can go very quickly.”
