Arsene Wenger has sent out a message of caution for Arsenal stars who may be looking to leave the club this summer.
With only one year remaining on their contracs, the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez have been linked with a departure.
However, Wenger insists players who leave the Gunners do not usually end up in a better situation elsewhere.
“We look at everything. We forget that we have top-quality people already and, if you look closely at the players who left us, every player who came here became a better player. You cannot say about every player who left us.” Wenger said
“We have a very good record with the team and the improvement of the players here. We have to continue that but we are also looking everywhere to become even better.”
A former Arsenal player still regretful over his exit is Alex Hleb who recently admitted that leaving the Emirates stadium was perhaps the wrong choice.
“Part of me regrets not staying at Arsenal,” Hleb said
“Wenger was like a father to me and he trusted me. It saddens me to think about it. But at the same time, Barcelona was – and is – the bigger club. I didn’t play as much, but I did play a bit.”
