Arsene Wenger has picked out the three players he expects to be charged with the task of leading his squad this season.
The Gunners appeared to have made a bright start to the new campaign after defeating Chelsea in the Community Shield before securing a 4-3 victory over Leicester City.
However, the backlash from fans and pundits has certainly resumed after last Saturday’s 1-0 loss against Stoke City.
Many have continued to question the level of leadership and character available in the current Arsenal squad.
But Wenger insists he has ‘many leaders’ indeed and the likes of Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker and Petr Cech are the main ones.
“We have many leaders,” the Arsenal manager said
“The modern life has created maybe a bit less natural leadership because more players are better informed and have a bigger knowledge of the game so everybody contributes.
“It is less centralised on one or two persons. But of course at the moment, I would say Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny are the captains with Petr Cech so the natural responsibility goes to them.”
