Arsene Wenger has spoken about his plans for his new defensive signing while revealing that Konstantinos Mavropanos might not even play for the first team for now.
The Gunners confirmed the arrival of the 20-year-old on Thursday, less than 24 hours after the 2-2 draw against Chelsea, a game littered with several defensive errors.
Mavropanos has been touted as a promising player who could replace the ageing Laurent Koscielny in the first team.
However, Wenger has revealed that the Greek youngster might be sent out on loan to Germany for the time being in order to gain experience.
“He is with us and the plan is that he goes out on loan somewhere,” the manager said.
“It could be a German club.”
“I prefer him to play. Where? It doesn’t really matter. It’s just that he plays in the top level and gains experience. He is 20 years old and he needs experience for a central defender.
“He is not ready to start for us so it is important he gets experience.”
