Arsene Wenger has expressed a slight concern over an aspect of Arsenal’s game during the 2-0 victory over Basel.
After an unconvincing performance on match day one at Paris Saint-Germain, the Gunners recorded their first win of this Champions League campaign with a one-sided show against Basel.
Arsenal made light work of the Swiss side who had proven to be a tricky opposition for English teams after defeating Manchester United and Chelsea in the past.
Basel will be flattered to have lost by only two goals after seeing Alexis Sanchez and company squander a host of goal-scoring opportunities following Theo Walcott’s brace.
“My only regret is that we didn’t take enough of the chances that we created. It’s a good basis to have a taste for more.” Wenger said in his post-match interview
“We eased off a bit in the second half and we couldn’t score the third goal. We still had plenty of chances but it’s tough to maintain that pace, accuracy in the passing and speed in the game over 90 minutes.
“The first half was top, top quality like what we produced against Chelsea.”
Wenger has also admitted he will have to work more with his team to improve their ruthlessness in the final third.
“I think we can do better and that will be down to our humility. We will start again tomorrow morning and then focus on our next game.” the Arsenal manager added
