Arsene Wenger has reflected on the uninspiring performance of one of his key attacking players in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Hull City.
Arsenal managed to secure all the three points for the first time in three games as goals from Alexis Sanchez wrapped up a 2-0 victory over a battling Hull side.
However, the performance from several players, including Mesut Ozil, was largely criticised by fans and pundits after the final whistle.
The Germany international was scarcely in impressive form once again on Saturday as Arsenal’s attack relied on the industrious Sanchez.
According to Wenger, the below-par displays from Ozil in recent weeks have been hard to explain.
“I felt he was not completely confident technically today,” Wenger said after the game. “I completely agree with you.”
“That’s a problem because you think he can deliver something special. It’s true that technically he did things today that he is not used to doing.
“I don’t know. It can happen. I can’t think of a specific reason. I had a chat with him yesterday (Friday). He looked alright.”
“Maybe it’s time for him to score a goal again. He needs to find confidence again.
“He misses chances that don’t look unfeasible for him (to score).”
