Arsene Wenger has made a rare admission about what his immediate plans in the transfer market are ahead of deadline day next month.

The Arsenal manager has been responsible for the additions of Granit Xhaka, Takuma Asano and Rob Holding so far this summer.

However, many are still demanding more transfer business from the Gunners after failing to capitalize on a great opportunity to win the Premier League last season.

Despite the arrival of Holding, one more defender was expected to be one of Arsenal’s priorities in the transfer market and it now appears that Per Mertesacker’s injury has moved Wenger to get a deal done as soon as possible.

According to the Frenchman – who has been linked with a move for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly – he is now working on signing an experienced centre-back more than ever after being told that Mertesacker could spend almost half a year out.

“We have to look for an option to get a bit more experience.” Wenger said

“We will see some of our young centre backs on Thursday as well. With Per being out, we are a bit short on the experience front and we are looking to bring somebody in.”
