Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has provided an update on the condition of key midfielder Santi Cazorla who is still spending time on the sidelines.
The former Malaga star last featured for the Gunners in October 2016 and there was initially little signs of a serious injury.
However, after almost a year-and-a-half on the sidelines, Cazorla’s football career appears to be on the line and Wenger has revealed the midfielder is once again having to recover from surgery.
“The latest news is that he is supposed to come back now.” the Arsenal manager said
“He had his latest surgery and we have to see where we go from there.
“I sent him a message two weeks ago and wished him well, hoping to see him soon. He has not come back yet because he has just had surgery.
The Gunners are now gearing up for a trip to Swansea City in midweek, another important match with over 2.5 goals tips as the race for a top four finish heats up.
Cazorla will definitely not play a part in that fixture and according to Wenger, whether the midfielder will even return to action this year is uncertain.
“The medical people know much better than I do whether he will play again in 2018 before the end of the season.” he added
“Before the end of the season will be hard for him.”
