Wenger reveals names of players he regrets not to have signed
Despite the accomplished dealer he is in the transfer market, Arsene Wenger does have his own ‘would have been’s in shopping for some of the gems of game.
In the latest edition of a web chat with the Arsenal boss – held by the club earlier this week – a fan asked whether there were any players Wenger regrets not to have secured and the manager’s response was as enthusiastic.
He did not necessarily rue his failure to lure those hit men but like a regretful man indeed, Arsene was quick to name some of the big names who were once up for grabs.
“We could have signed Essien, we could have signed Makelele but it didn’t work.” Wenger said.
“There are many in fact. We were close to signing Ronaldo before Man. United. So you have already a few big names together there.”
We were also close to signing Cech, Ronaldhinio and Eto.
ibrahimovic took a pic with the number 9 on it back in 01
Don’t know about what you guys are recalling. Never heard of it.
But the Ibrahimovic one sounds interesting and I just found that pic too. Apparently we had the chance to sign him for 3m from Malmo FF
he’d rather sign a 16 year old now
cheer-up,they’ll all come aroud ,even C.ronaldo sign will for the best team, arsenal, the pride of london
Wenger we respect you but enough of we could haves…… now we need you to get the good guys though for reasonable prices. we need to get them before making noise about them. Arsenal seams to be the haven for scouting good players for others to snatch. sometimes we cause it by delaying the signing of players because of his wages. we need to push this time. Merry Xmas to u all.
problem is you offered £7.40 and they were sold for between 10m to 20m, there’s your reason!!
LOL…haha. I’m sure Wenger offered that amount and under the strict condition of taking the player on a trial first before signing him.
wenger would still only take ronaldo on a trial now b4 signing him
from what I hear thats why we didn’t get Ibra…he felt that he was above taking a trial…he felt that they’ve seen him play in games so why does he need go on a trial too
Am more keen on learning who he regrets signing. Lets make a lil list
you guys have no idea about IBRA. Wenger sent him the nr 9 shirt for christmas and made a bid in january. However Ajax later offered around $13mm and Malmo took the money and ran.
stop talking about stuff you have no idea about. assuming and talking trash online makes no sense att all!!!

Recognise the fourth van down?
The massage parlour is 6.2 miles from the Portsmouth FC training ground.
Hmmm, so which manager was it?
Some people seem to think that only Arsene’s got a say in whether a player comes or not. We bid 8 million for C Ronaldo, as did Juventus and Real Madrid. Last minute Man U bid 12 million (50% more than every one else) and the deal was done.
Ibrahimovich, as a teenager, decided he was too important to do a trial. After the Anelka incident I can understand why Arsene didn’t want another prima donna. Let’s face it we got Henry instead – I for one am happy with that.
Don’t forget all the signings mentioned were for when they were young players and therefore there was a risk attached. If Ronaldo hadn’t developed as well as he did, 12 million (especially 6(?) years ago) for a youngster would have been a lot to throw away.
Ask other clubs whch Arsenal player they wish they had and probably Almunia will still be unattached. Henry is greater than all we didnt get.
One only wish something else when what you have is not good enough. Get rid of average players like Silvester,Djorou,Almunia,Sanderos,Walcott…yes Walcott and see if you remember the players you never had.
if my aunt had bollocks she would be my uncle dont fuckabout buy someone then we can coment
this man is at it again. He;s telling us about pkayers he regrets sugning? Is this man not meant to be drawing up a list of experienced players now for the jan transfer window?Or is Arsne wenger not interested in wining somthing this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Korenke,i hope you are observing, foronce you take over arsenal.wenger should be your number 1 piority-sack and bring in a coach that is ready to spend and win the treble!!!!!!
WENGER RECALING MEANS THAT HE HAS SEEN A 15YRS OLD PLAYER THAT WILL REPLACE RVP IN JANUARY,
armchair analysts!!!!
and plus whenever some recalls there regrets, dont they then try and rectify future ones…? dzeko…? ginjac…?
I follow wenger’s way….
I wouldnt be surprised if other clubs have scouts that scout Arsenal’s scouts… lol… know what I mean?
Another thing is also that Wenger doesnt just sign players for their technical/physical abilities, he signs them on character/personality basis as well… not sure if that had a part to play in not signing some players.
And also, lets remember some of the rough diamonds he signed… Henry, Vieira, Pires, Fabregas, Clichy, etc.. world class players, many managers might go 20 years in the business and not even discover 1 player as good as these.
The problem is that Arsenal players are young and inexperienced. Financially Arsenal is a big success, but still Arsenal has a very vulnerable defence. Henry was one of the big losses to Arsenal, when wenger sold him.
