Wenger reveals why 20-year-old star was removed from Arsenal squad this week
Arsene Wenger has revealed why Alex Iwobi was not even included in the Arsenal squad which faced Bayern Munich.
The Gunners bowed out of the Champions League as Carlo Ancelotti’s side run riot again in a 5-1 victory at the Emirates stadium.
However, Tuesday’s affair saw one of the regular names on the Arsenal team sheet left out by the manager.
After featuring frequently despite his lackluster recent form, Alex Iwobi was omitted from the 18-man squad which played the German champions.
According to Wenger, the absence of the Nigerian youngster was due to an illness similar to what saw Danny Welbeck pull out of the team right before kick-off.
“It is possible, yes [that there is a sickness bug]. We have a little problem on that front. I don’t know if it is a bug or not. They called me on the morning of the game and said Iwobi cannot play and Welbeck at 5pm in the afternoon felt sick.” the Gunners boss said
“We still tried to play him but it could be a bug, I don’t know.”
