Wenger speaks on Chris Smalling link
Arsene Wenger did not quash rumors over Chris Smalling when questioned after yesterday’s match.
Speculation has grown over the past 24 hours that Arsenal have made a move for Fulham’s young English center-back.
Hinting of the transfer is the relatively credible Sky Sports who report that the Gunners have made a £7 million bid for the 20-year-old.
Smalling has impressed for Fulham during absences of former Arsenal target Brede Hangeland and would be seen as a long-term replacement for 32-year-old William Gallas whose contract expires this summer.
Wenger was expected to break the silence on Wednesday’s main gossip after the clash with Bolton and the Frenchman might have done so in promising fashion for those familiar with the manager’s tone when a transfer rumor is likely.
Arsene gave a shy response and maintained that the club intends to keep all transfer movements behind closed doors.
“We like to keep quiet about what we do.” Wenger said.
“When we sign a player, we will inform the press but I believe it is very important that between the clubs nothing comes out – from our side nor from Fulham’s side or from any other club.”
Wenger should pls sign
Boss this will be a great signin and don’t forget we need a ritfooted vermaelen tanks.
We really need a tall centre back
Pls sign us a deadly striker cos we need to win the primer league this season.
wenger we need a charton cole if we are to win something and a good deffensive mildfielder.thanx to team spirit against bolton
I have only seen about 10 mins of this guy whilst watching match of the day. He did have a blinder against Drogba which immediately puts him above Senderos.
I would love to see Dzeko signed. I will dream on
carlton cole, huh? what’s next … more crying for flamini?
get real guys!
and dzeko, never happen. too expensive.
Wenger ur squad need an outstanding player 2 compete wt d likes of chelsea&man u,particularly forward.
if we can get him fine but we need a chamakh or cole striker and tall DM
is this french man really going to sign anyone? its getting late and we need a strong target man please wenger do something.
With the exception of the Diarra signing a few years ago, Arsenal transfers are always long drawn out processes (look at Arshavin and Nasri). Since we haven’t heard any major rumors yet I can just about guarantee you that we aren’t likely to sign anyone in the next 10 days
People, why are you all having panic attacks about new signings. The team is doing just fine, despite the many injuries, and with players gradually coming back from those injuries, things will only get better. There is no need to panic.I am sure the professor is more aware of the needs of the team than anyone of us,so please just leave it up to him to decide in due course. No amount of clamouring from us will make any difference in his decision making, and as he has proven on numerous occasions in the past,he is very astute in his purchases. So,you all just relax and await the master stroke from the professor.Have a great weekend, and enjoy the game against Stoke.
I’m not panicing…just pointing out a fact. We’re top of the league and it’s our injury riddled team that’s gotten there
If Bendtner and Walcott can come back into the team and stay injury free then I’ll be esctatic
Adredntgunner you are spot on. This team is doing fine!!!! We have enough players/play makers to content on all fronts. There is a reason he hasn’t signed anyone yet. THis is a team and you bring someone with a negative vibe into this squad an all will be lost. You play as a team you win as a team.
I’d like to see him sign this player but it would kill the progress of DJ, the verdict is still out on him but it would hurt his chances.
I say we sell Senderous and pick up this player on the cheap before the price goes up.
No need for a striker, we are doing well. Save the money and reward the players who stuck it out and are going to win us the trhophy this year!
He just signed with Man U. Looks like there is no signings for this Jan. window.
