Arsene Wenger has spoken about the late big move he made on Thursday with the transfer deadline approaching.
The Gunners manager has faced severe scrutiny over the past couple of weeks, especially after defeats on the road against Stoke City and Liverpool.
Wenger responded to those disappointing results in the Premier League by offloading more first team players as Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain completed moves to West Brom and Liverpool respectively.
However, with Alexis Sanchez still on the radar of Manchester City, Arsenal attempted to find a replacement for the Chilean by making a club-record offer to sign Thomas Lemar.
Despite agreeing a transfer fee with AS Monaco, the player turned down a move to the Emirates stadium because he reportedly preferred a Liverpool switch.
But according to Wenger, the only reason Lemar rejected an Arsenal transfer was because he just wanted to remain at Monaco.
“We made the offer on the last day of the transfer window, but he chose to stay in Monaco.” the Arsenal manager said
