Mesut Ozil will resume action as early as next weekend.

The German international appeared to have been rested on Saturday following a recent slump in form but Arsene Wenger suggested that Ozil’s absence was due to a minor thigh injury he had sustained.

Nonetheless, the Gunners were in fluid form with Ozil not around as they thumped Sunderland 4-1 to keep pace with Chelsea at the top of the Premier League.

And back in the frame will be Arsenal’s £42 million summer signing when they tackle a tricky trip to the Britannia stadium on Saturday.

“Yes [he was injured], a thigh problem but it was a kick. He should also be available next week. He is in the dressing room at the moment.” Wenger said

The 25-year-old summed up his dip in form when he missed a glorious penalty-kick opportunity against Bayern Munich on Wednesday. But Ozil will now hope to emulate Olivier Giroud in returning from a break in improved spirit.
