Arsene Wenger has revealed the reason behind his significant change to the team on Monday night.
After watching his side lose all of their last four away games in the Premier League ahead of the trip to Middlesbrough, the Gunners boss decided to shuffle his defensive unit.
And according to Wenger, switching over to a 3-4-3 formation was an attempt to stop Arsenal from giving away more goals.
“We weren’t solid defensively [against Crystal Palace],” the boss said ahead of kick-off on Monday
“We will of course have to defend better as a team.
“In the last two games away from home we’ve had a lot of the ball and didn’t create a lot. Let’s try to come back with some defensive stability.”
“We adapt a bit and play with three centre-back yes.
“Recently we’ve lost a lot of direct fights centrally and so it will get us a bit stronger in the air.”
