Arsene Wenger has added more explanation to why Alexis Sanchez has continued to be preferred to Lucas Perez in the lone striker role.
Arsenal maintained their encouraging form in recent weeks with another dominant display on Wednesday night as Basel succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the Emirates stadium.
The victory saw the Gunners rack up an impressive total of 13 goals in their last four fixtures, dismissing concerns over a shortage of goals from last season.
One question which remains unanswered is whether new signing Lucas Perez, who was left on the bench again on Wednesday, will eventually be back in the team to lead the Arsenal front-line.
However, Wenger insists the experiment of deploying Alexis Sanchez at centre-forward is working too well to make any changes.
“At the moment he [Sanchez] looks like he has the ingredients to do very well there [upfront]. He’s getting stronger in every single game.” the Arsenal manager said
Theo Walcott, who has played an important part in Arsenal’s flurry of goals, has also praised the idea of teaming up with the Chilean superstar in attack.
“It has started off very well. I will look back on this game [against Basel] but, yeah, the combinations between me and him [Sanchez] are very positive at this moment in time.” Walcott said
“We seem to sort of know when we play off each other quite well. If he comes short, I go long and we have just got a good sort of combinations.”
