Arsene Wenger has revealed that Alexis Sanchez could be back in the squad when Arsenal face Sunderland in the FA Cup.

The Chilean forward has been sidelined by a hamstring problem which saw him hobble off during the 1-1 draw against Norwich City.

However, after being handed a month to recover, Wenger is now counting on Sanchez to return to training and be in contention for Saturday’s clash with Sunderland.

“It’s a possibility [you may see him against Sunderland],” the Arsenal manager said.

“Alexis Sanchez needs a good test over the next four days and afterwards we will make a decision.”

With key players Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil appearing to need a rest, a return for Sanchez could help the Gunners boss rotate his options in attack ahead of a busy fixture list.

According to Wenger, there could soon be more fitness boosts for his side with Coquelin and Cazorla making progress after knee surgeries.

“Francis Coquelin is starting to run, Santi Cazorla will be back in mid-February, and Mikel Arteta is back now,” he added
