Report: Arsenal 5-0 Porto
Arsenal and Nicklas Bendtner had a day of days on Tuesday.
For the first time since their move to the Emirates, the Gunners overturned a first leg-deficit to progress in the champions league while Bendtner followed Saturday’s profligate performance with a hat trick in an emphatic 5-0 win over Porto.
For both parties, this was a staggering response to critics.
Arsenal’s Champions League dream would not end tonight and Nicklas Bendtner does know where the net is.
Injured Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas, whose midfield playmaking role was filled superbly by Nasri, said in his programme notes he was hoping Bendtner had saved his goals for Porto.
After 10 minutes the Danish striker duly obliged when he slotted the ball into an empty net after keeper Helton had bravely denied Andrei Arshavin who had been released by Nasri.
Arshavin’s pace and trickery teed up Bendtner for his second on 25 minutes as Arsenal moved ahead on aggregate.
Porto enjoyed a brief spell of pressure early in the second half but after Falcao failed to convert their best chance of the night, normal service was resumed.
Two goals in four minutes just past the hour killed off the visitors. After 63 minutes Nasri ran at pace into the Porto area and dribbled past three defenders before planting a shot inside the far post.
Then Arshavin carved Porto open and his reverse pass allowed Eboue to skip around the despairing Helton and roll the ball into an unguarded net.
Bendtner completed his hat-trick with virtually the last kick of the game, firing a low penalty into the corner after Eboue was brought down.

Brilliant game!
Every, single, player, was superb!
You could actually see a team of footballing players who know each other well n all linked up beautifully.
A proud Gooner, Come on Arsenal!
yyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!nasri is playing unreal lately,im getn really excited about him,if he stays fit he will be one hell of a player, song arshavin bendtner vermaelen also fantastic 2nite,bring em on!!!,our march to madrid continues 🙂
This was a fantastic display of pure beautiful football! It took the breathe away! Porto, got destroyed! I said it yesterday..Cesc or not, Cesc no problem! I hope this is an indication of what is to be seen from now on.
Everyone gets credit, but MOM is, Nasri!
Go Arsenal!
BTW, Clichy ran like a horse out there. He is getting his form back!
Left…that’s what i thought too, in these last few games Clichy is getting back to his form which seemed lost since Bham match in 2008.
Nasri and Cesc will make a good partnership if Cesc stays next season!
😀
nasri, song, AA, and the verminator all looked great. clichy looking his old self. and even sagna put in a few good crosses – now that IS something! eboue is playing like man possessed. and way to shake off the demons bendtner – just effing keep it up!
and come on boys. enjoy a resounding ass-kicking without going into the douchebag prediction shit. no more soft games from here, enjoy while we can.
Bendtner!!!!!!!!
That run from, Eboue was fantastic! He came out of nowhere! Great pass from, Arshavin so Eboue could just slam dunk that one. One on one are not easy! They played it, and timed it perfectly. Again it took the breathe away!
good old arsenal….what else
Wenger’s faith in Bendtner paid off! I ‘ve been critical of Bendtner after his Burnley’s performance and he did silent me with this performance against Porto. Hope that goals will continue to flow from him consistenly.Overall an awesome display from The Arsenal..Go Arsenal Go..!!!!
We are CHAM
Hey Loft,i couldn’t agree with you more, that pass by Arshavin, the run, dummy and finish by Eboue, simply mouth-watering.That is what the beautiful game is all about.Nasri’s goal was a piece of individual brilliance fit for highlight reel.Bendtner’s hat-trick was timely but not spectacular, hope he continues to improve.Overall the team played well, and the emphatic win is well deserved.I still maintain that we have as good a chance as anyone else to win either or both of the EPL or Champions League.Keep the faith.
where are all the Nicky B haters????
Give the kid some credit for the way he bounced back..
Well played gunners, well played. If we can stay healthy we might have a chance…I’m not saying anything because we were in this situation last year..so let’s just enjoy the ride take each game as it comes and worry about Hull who is next.
Up the guns…
Loft- Nasri is starting to silence me…ha!
Glad to see you opening your eyes now, USAG! haha. Gotta get behind this team especially now that this team looks fantastic to win something. Cheers.
keep on wenger with your boys.
Oh God! its really, really Good. Shut up Bend haters! his confidence kills port o. long-live Arsen and senal`s boys!!
KARLOS KARLOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WHERE ARE YOU????????????WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT BENDTNER HAAN?????HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAH.I TOLD U I WOULD BE THE FIRST 1 TO TELL U HAHHAHAJA
im not being critical …..but guys,Nick didnt play that well…please agree with this..
even carlton palmer said that falcao on the other hand should more hunger..im very happy for nick that hes got his confidence but sorry..hes performance was nothing that great also,it was GOOD..i mean everybody reading this comment could have scored those goals..(seriously…even usagunner..)…again…i give that guy credit bcoz he ran for those goals…but sorry,i may be abused by everyone.but everybody has got to admit that NICKY didint play “remarkbly” well.he played well, undoubtedly,i would be afool to say he didint ,he won thee aerial headers and proppeled the attack sometimes.but man of the match should go to SAMIR NASRI..not nick…in my opinion
DKD, buddy…I love all Arsenal fans even if they slip once in awhile and get disgusted by their performances and strat ripping on them. But can i ask you what game were you watching yesterday? Burnley replay or Porto match? How easy do you think it is to score a hat trick in the knock out stages? Especially, the pressure, Bendtner was under after he missed chances in abundance last weekend against Burn. Everyone will give their own opinion and I think, Bendtner had a great night. He worked his ass off, he won aerial balls (which is what we lack), puts himself in great positions to score (what he did last night). He fixed what happened against Burnley and it showed. Now, if I saw this guy walking around the pitch and missing more easy chances to score I would worry and say he is, CRAP! Bendtner, is someone we have been waiting for to step up in attack. He came through when we needed him. I think this is great for him and the team moving forward. I said it a couple of weeks ago..he can be a key player that can propel us to winning something this year.
DKD, I seriously think you have something against, Bendtner. My opinion, Everyone deserves credit. It was a team effort and not a one man show. When this team plays like this it is hard to choose MOM! I can’t think of anyone who played that bad last night. But the, Nasri goal is something special and it has to be given to him for filling in for, Cesc, playing well, and scoring a magical goal.
well said loft
I AGREE WITH YOU ON NICKS EFFORT …AND HIS ATTITUDE AS PLAYER ,AS A MIDFIELDER ,HE DOES EXACTLY WHAT USA SAID ,BUT MY FRIEND AS A STRIKER HES NOT GOOD ENOUGH…IM SORRY..HES JUSTNOT GOOD ENOUGH…WE NEED RVP.
WE WILL WIN…I PROMISE U THIS…IF BENDTNER PROVES ME WRONG IN THE UPCOMING MATCHES..I HOPE HE WILL.I SERIOUSLY DO..
THAT WAS THE EASIEST HATRICK ON THE PLANET…U WOULD HAVE GOT THOSE GOALS…LETS SEE HIM @ HULL,HOPE,HE PROVES ME WRONG..AND SHUTS ME UP
He didn’t play well? What kind of ass clown are you to only spot out the negatives in someones game?
Do you base your performance only on how they scored goals? I’m confused..
he held the balls for the other midfielders.
he was aggresive in the air
he put 2 goals in the net..Hustle goals..they weren’t pretty but they were goals.
he tracked all the way back to our own box to run down a ball
the players do more than you watch DKD.
Ady would have had 4 off sides, would have scored and made himself out to be a god..I’m over it..I would rather have NIcky’s hustle and determination any day over that no talent ass clown Ady.
Give respect where it’s due.
USAMA and Loft you deserve the respect…
are u obsessed with ady….ady…ady….ady …go marry him
NICK is any day better than ady,but my point is that everyone is talking “look, what a striker”,”superb finisher”,hes undoubtedly a good player and did all the things u said:
he held the balls for the other midfielders.
he was aggresive in the air”,but his performance as a striker isnt one to be proud of..
he played more of a midfielder, which is good in this case, but now in quarters ,when we face tough opposition, lets hope he proves me wrong…
DKD, you don’t understand man. When, Bendtner wasn’t around we were struggling. Arshavin, is back to his normal position and he is playing how we know he can. Look at the assist he gave, Bendtner for the 2nd? Shoot even the first when he went straight towards goal but the play got broken down…Bendtner, came in and knocked in the ball under pressure from a Porto defender. Easy? I think not! I’ve seen RVP score the same goals, Bendtner did last night. Let’s be happy for, Bendtner and hope he keeps this up because we have no one up front at the moment. A player of his caliber needs this kind of goals. This might be his turning point who knows. But don’t be so critical of a player who came from missing 5-6 chances over the weekend to scoring a hat trick. Again, that is not easy! Proven striker or not..not easy!
I hate Ady, the way he played the way he carried himself..he was a cancer off and on the pitch.
I’m not saying he’s the best striker in the world or our team but 5 goals in all competitions in the last 4 games is something that I can live with.
The only way to get out of a slump is to keep shooting…congrats to Nicky B..just hope he keeps it up and we take the rest of the games seriously.
Next up Hull..this would be a very big win on the road..a must 3 points!
Up the Guns…
i hope we face united in the quarters (i dont know about u gooners though).i recently read his joke on the net ,maybe some of u know it .anyway its hilarious buts its kinda old-
“Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal team are having a chat in the dressing room before their match against Manchester Utd.
“Look guys, I know they’re shite..”, explains Arsene, “but we have to play them to keep the FA happy”.
“I’ll tell you what..”, pipes up Bergkamp, “You guys go down the pub and I’ll play them on my own, how does that sound?”.
“Seems reasonable.”, replies Arsene and the other lads, and with that they all go down the Highbury Tavern and start playing pool. After an hour or so, Vieria remembers the match and flicks to pub telly onto Ceefax: Arsenal 1 (Bergkamp 10min), Manchester Utd 0 – is the score line. Couple of minutes later they recheck the score and it is Arsenal 2 (Bergkamp 11min), Manchester Utd 0 “- Confidently they resume their pool match for the next hour until switching back to Ceefax, the final score reads: Arsenal 2 Manchester Utd 1 (Giggs 89min).
“WHAT!!”,they exclaim and run back to Highbury where they find Dennis sitting in the dressing room with his head in his hands.
“What the *.!$% happened, Dennis?”, bellows Tony Adams.
“Sorry lads”, Bergkamp replies, “Bloody ref sent me off in the 12thminute”.
Jajajajajaja,very funny.
ah come on guys Bendtner goals only reminds me of the goals Adebayor use to score, sitters. And the occasional amazing ones, like the one against Stoke.
Remember Eduardo in his prime before somebody kicked his leg broken. He use to score goals that probably no one else in the team could have. Take for example the two goals he scored against West Ham that won the game 2-1 for Arsenal.

I notice Eduardo is quite slow since he has return and my memory tells me he used to be faster
sorry for my double post
thanks USA G………..
Thanks, USAG. You the man!
Usama…
Meh…a toe-poke from 12 feet into an empty net.
A 4 foot tap-in into an empty net.
A 91st minute P.K. in a match we are winning 4-0.
Appreciate the goals because they helped my club advance…but harldy impressed with the player.
Dude is NOT an Arsenal quality striker.
Wright, Bergkamp, Henry, Van Persie…that is class.
Bendtner???…puh-lease!!!
somehow i agree partly with you…karlos…but i feel a player ar arsenal is always chosen well…lets see him @ hull ,mate
YOU WILL REGRET WHAT U ARE SAYING!!!!1KARLOS!!!!! SOME PEOPLE NEVER LEARN!
