What are your hopes for Arsenal’s FIVE new signings?
It is safe to say Arsenal have made some movement in the transfer market since Sunday.
The Gunners have announced signings of Park Chu-Young (FW), Andre Santos (LB), Per Mertesacker (CB), Yossi Benayoun (MF) and Mikel Arteta (MF) to leave a majority of fans in rejuvenated mood.
But what do you really expect from Arsenal’s new boys? Better stuff or too little too late? Have your say!
For more of this, join us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.
Perfect squad, good line up, technical play, rejuvenated guuners. Scezzney, sagna, santos, vermelean, metersaker, song, arteta, wilshere, gervinho, benayoun, van persie. Just imagine
ermmm I think Walcott should and would probably starting ahead of Benayoun.
TRUE, benayoun for song
Arteta is a great player and will make a huge difference. Better than Fabregas in the sense that he wouldn’t have is mind on Barcelona or any other team at 29 and a 4 year contract. so he will be dedicated to win trophies with Gunners.
Disagree with you Michel; Fabregas had and have his mind in Barcelona that should not be mistaken with his performances,he was fully committed to arsenal and for the cause it wanted out from him ( i really believe the club back than had any plans,if they did have they should have tried to find a complimenting partner for him in midfield as quick as Flamini left us ). He still refer to us as “We” and still keeps saying “Arsenal will be in my Hearts” it is hard to even imagine a modern day player like him.
Game Wise the only front arteta can pop up against cesc is Free kicks.
Finally i say this Cesc Fabregas of Arsenal is Irreplaceable but that is not the same case with Cesc Fabregas of Bracelona.
#LoveArsenal
What a day! Great signing Arteta is and to the pessimists, yes he is not Cesc or Nasri but he is an exceptional player, experienced and more importantly a brilliant attitude.
Same for Mertesacker, great deal, never mind the media crying about how slow he is, check the stats he is faster than a large number of EPL defenders.
As for Santos just hope he can defend as all his clips show his attacking side, either way, he is experienced and matured and seems like he has a bite to him.
As for Chu Young and Benayoun, I honestly am not sure esp the latter. Chu Young’s work rate seems like what we need. either way, we have a large squad of good mixture of youth and experience and this will help a great deal.
CAnt wait to see TV5 and Mertesacker combination.
Not much it only arteta mertz and santos I am excited about the other 2 add depth to the squad that we lack and yossi is a consistent performer and maybe that’s what we need a steady eddy rather than Andre ass-shavin
lets hope this squad can challenge the mercenaries club
Ecstatic especially with the acquisition of both defenders. Really excited. Can’t wait to see santos and gervinho or who ever arsene plays on the left tear them apart. Its a new beginning guys…am roaring to go….Come on!
IF Arteta and Yossi stay fit then they are very big signings for us and definitely will slip easily into our style of play.
Park and Santos I have no idea about but fingers crossed.
As for Mert he is the big signing (no pun intended). He will work perfectly with the Verminator. I would go as far as saying this partnership could be the best in the premiership and maybe even in Europe.
I still think we should have signed a big name striker. What happens if RVP is injured?
Whatever has happened we will definitely be in a much better position than before they arrived and I guess it is a case of wait and see now.
I believe that these signings will save our season …to finish in the top four. WE can challenge for the epl title next season as we have a better mix of experience and youth. The outlook seems alot brighter compared to the last couple of weeks.
I believe Wenger has come back to his senses and realised that Arsenal needs a ‘mature’ squad to challenge 4 trophies… Instead of relying on guys like Gibbs, coquelin, Frimpong etc
Frimpong will be getting a lot of play when Song is off To ANC in February.
Bring on swansea……payback’s a bitch. Boy are they gonna get it….COYGs
5-0, time ta get our season underway.
Exciting times are ahead for The Arsenal! The 5 new signings come with a wealth of experience playing at the very top level. With the exception of Mikel Arteta, all of them represented their countries in the World cup.
YES!!!…Kidz you’re back!
That, plus the five new signings makes it all a hoooooray for today!!! 😀
Wenger,pls get Eden in january,
Looking good ! The squad has more balance. We now have pace on the left from Gervinho (& cover from Miyachi), instead of having to play either Nasri or Arshavin out of position. Arteta is a class act, not quite Cesc but the same instinctive skills. Mertesaker gives us height at the back & hopefully the experience & leadership to keep the back line better organised. Santos has an amazing goal to appearance ratio (1 in 5) for a wing back & looks more robust than Clichy. Benayoun is a skillfull & tenacious. So…lots of additional skill & experience for the young players to learn from & competition for the likes of Arshavin, Rosicky. & Ramsey. Most of all a fresh group of players in to break up the old complacency that had seemed to settle into the squad over the past 2 seasons.
Mate, nasri is so out of position nowadays hes in manchester! Keep up
more than arteta, i am excited about yossi benayoun. he always looked class when he played for liverpool. did not see him much for chelsea.
i just went through one of his videos on youtube, and he totally reminds me of our very own bobby. Robert Pires for those not familiar with the nick.
i have to say wenger has done really well,,,,,5 players in 2 days!!!!!,,,4 full senior internationals,,,,3 captains and all over 25!!!!!!!!,,,,,this is what we needed,,,EXPERIENCE BY THE TRUCK LOAD!!!!!!!!! well done arsene you have exceeded my expectations by about 200 international caps,,,im actually smiling again
in arsene we trust. Arteta, song, wilshere
Happy with all of them but i would still like to aee m’villa in january. Hazard is out of the question as he will be champions league cup tied then
Ps northbanksey keep up we sold nasri thats why we had to go out and buy replacements
waoo! Wot a day 4 me am very hapi seen ARTETA,PRE,PARCK,YOSSI and ADRE DOS SANTOS i bliv we re ok 2 win d league i must say a very big thank u 2 man u 4 beting us nd our cocah seen dat we need more qulitys nd exprience in de club am very hapi because my team is ok 2 win d champions league dis year even d premier league dis year nd i expet more cmpitions 4m de defenc d midfld nd d atark am glad 2 day is d day i have been w8tin 4 but aw expetin more 4 pre nd arteta tank god 4 wenger nd man u nd al d arsenal fans we wil c d best of wengr dis year
Great news My hearts been broke for the past year but these 5 new signings have a smile back in my face also. Mertesakers a super signing as is arteta. Now its time for Arsenal to get back to what we are good at and this is playing top class football and put the nightmare of the last few weeks behind us
Does anybody know if mertesacker can speak english? If not i dont think his leadership skills wont kick in for a couple of months. Cant wait to see him and the verminator in action together. I also think arteta could be the competition needed to really make ramsey & wilshere put in an extra 15% effort likewise with benayoun and arshavin
I think he’s big enough to get his point across! The issue with defensive discipline is now whether Gibbs and Santos can toe the line, in both senses. Defensively we have SZCZ, too, coming good. Song has looked great to me. So that makes 5 of 6 of our defensive unit starters bordering on super quality. Still not going to win the league, but now have a basis to build from and keep RvP and Theo. Could win a cup, perhaps, with luck and aggression, which we now have more of than any time in the last 6 years. Nasri and Bendy weren’t fighters. Neither was Almunia or Fabianski (whom I like). Nor was Eboue or Denilson. Jenkinson, Vermaelen (LANS), Frimpong, Mertesacker, perhaps Chamberlain and Jenkinson are, too. Park looks cocky and dependable in the breech and Arteta has always fought his corner. So perhaps AW has brought in the necessary aggression to this Wengerball mark 4. Still like to see a superstar or two come soon, but sometimes a team effort turns draws into wins and preserves wins from becoming draws.
Excited I am! Arsene, great job here.
Thanks a million Randy…glad to be back. There’s no place like The Red London. You rock man!!
Wenger’s really worked some magic this summer.
Transfers In: Jenkinson, Dos Santos, Mertesackr, Arteta, Benayoun, Miyaichi, Gervinho, Chamberlain, Park. (Campbell)
Transfers Out: Clichy, Fabregas, Nasri, Thomas, Eboue. (Bendtner + Lansbury out on loan).
I would of personally added Almunia, Squillaci (Promote Miquel) and Chamakh (Bendtner’s better) to the list of Transfers out and kept Bendtner in the team.
Official Arsenal F.C Squad for the 2011/2012 season:
Szczesny, Fabianski, Mannone, Almunia
Sagna, Jenkinson
Santos, Gibbs
Vermaelen, Mertesackr, Koscielny, Djourou, Miquel, Squillaci
Song, Diaby, Frimpong
Wilshere, Rosicky, Arteta, Ramsey
Gervinho, Walcott, Arshavin, Benayoun, Miyaichi, Chamberlain
van Persie, Park, Afobe, Chamakh
Pretty decent squad if I must say so myself.
Our defence needs to be adjusted to suit and embrace Santos’ killer attacking skills (better than some wingers in the league). We could do what Barcelona do with Alves and give him all the attacking freedom he wants whilst we curb the attacking from Sagna as his main trait is his defensive ability. We would also need to put Song on left side of our midfield pivot with Wilshere/Rosicky playing on the right of the midfield double pivot.
Arteta’s set piece skill is a relief as van Persie seems to have lost his touch when it comes to set pieces.
Since we didn’t get another defensive minded midfielder, Wenger has to now make Song strictly stick to his defensive duties to allow the midfielders alongside/infront of him to play with a bit more freedom.
I still have nightmares at the thought of szcz getting injured snd almunia standing in. All that money spent on defence would be wasted.
We have Fabianski waiting on the wings followed by Manone…. i don’t think we’ll see Almunia in an arsenal jersey anymore….
The interesting thing about these transfers:
Arteta, Everton captain.
Benayoun, Israel captain.
Chu Young-Park, South Korea captain.
Mertersacker, Werder Bremen captain.
We have some real experienced, leaders in the team for once and Andre Santos is 28 and well experienced with the Brazil team. It’s gonna be really interesting for us now, really excited.
I think frimpong will start ahead of song… If either of them play. Shame for song as he was our best player last season. Team for swansea
Szcenzny
Sagna Tv5. Mertesacker. Santos
Wilshere. Arteta. Ramsey
Walcott. V.persie. Gervinho
Scezzney,
santos, vermelean, metersaker, sagna,
song, arteta, wilshere,, benayoun,
van persie, gervinho
A super solid formation indeed
Santo should be v.good, not many people can play for Brazil national team, with million of brazilan players up for selection every year.
Hope they can snap up Gary Cahill for a bargin or free in Jan 2012 and challenge for the champion league
With all this new team members, let’s look forward to revenge against ManU in Emirate Stadium
Very impressive , we hope to see positive result in sha Allah.
I wish Arsenal and Arsenal fans all over the world success and season hitch free.
Arsenal manager should use the right people at the right position and at the right time.
Gotta say, this transfer window looked more like 2 different windows! The first being b4 the MU disaster when we did real bad by allowing cesc and nasri to go and only bringing in Gervinho as someone with experience at the top level. The 2nd window as after the MU match and it has to be the best window for quite awhile!!
All 5 guys seem to be great quality and considering the $$$ we spend getting them, all are real good pieces of business! Of the 5, i think Per, Santos and Arteta will have a big impact for us! In Per, we have a great partner for TV5. Per’s reading of the game will compliment TV’s more attacking style of play while TV’s pace will compliment Per’s perceived lack of pace! I think the 2 will form a formidable partnership!
Santos seems a big improvement to both gibbs and traore. He seems like a monster going forward but I am not too sure on his defending. Still both gibbs and traore were not too good in defend anyway and Santos, being an international and considering his more solid built, will definitely do better than the 2. One thing for sure is he’ll need a winger in from of him that is willing to track back to cover for him as I can see him constantly making bombing runs forward. So no way he can have Arshavin in front of him! =)
Finally as for Arteta, I think he is probably one of those “super quality” player that Wenger can refer to! Everyone keeps saying he was never capped by Spain and hence he is only a decent player but I beg to differ. I think Arteta is probably on par with Cesc in terms of his passing, vision and technique. The only reason why he was never chosen to the national team, imho, is more because of the team he is in. If he is in a big spanish team or one of the big 4 in England, I am sure he would have been picked! He is definitely going to form a great midfield partnership with Wilshere and be a good mentor to Ramsey after Cesc’s departure. My only concern is his injury record but I believe we have good cover in that area now with Yossi and Ramsey. We can even move Wilshere forward and play Song and Frimpong or Rosicky if needed!
As for Yossi and Park, both will be great squad players! Yossi is a proven BPL player and represents a much better squad player to the ones we have currently. He will also, hopefully, put even more pressure on Arshavin to step up (I still miss the old Arshavin and don’t understand how he can have such a drop in standard to the player he is now). Park will challenge Chamarkh (who again is struggling to regain his form from the 1st half of last season) and provide good cover to RVP. I think with our current squad, Park represents a good investment. Relatively low price and low risk. Even if he doesn’t do well and Chamarkh continues with his struggle, we can still move Gervinho up and have Yossi and Walcott on the wings. Or we can even push Santos up and get gibbs in as the LB!
What these 5 signings gave us is definitely options and plenty of them! The season now looks bright and like others were saying, BRING ON SWANSEA!!!!!
P/S: Gervinho will also be a great signing for us and I can see him becoming one of our dangerman and match winner once he comes back from his suspension! Him and Santos on the left…. devastating!!!
Wenger just exceeded my expectation. Would ve loved to see the Hazardous Eden and/or Dempsey to cover fpr VP. Great Squad. Stanley
i told u,i knew what wenger can do,in Arsene we trust.great job wel done, this is type of players i like to see in our team.thank God for that,i also thanks my captain R.v.p.and others.pay back time.i can wait……let’s go.let’s put smile on there face.
Now hopefully in January, we’ll go back in for Hazard / Martin / M’Vila and get Cahill in for either a cut price or sign him up under Bosman rule for the next season for free!!! I know he is from bolton, but if we got him for free, it will be as devastating a blow to Spurs as us taking Campbell from them for free!!! =)
Kudos to the management and any other person that contributed to this massive transfer. At least we are now going to some relieve from within and outside the club. We hope to see progressI’ve football
and commitment among the players . Becos all eyes will now be on them to deliver .
Am excited atleast i have seen some experience players in Emirate. Thank God we have getting rid of hypocrits lik Fab and nasiri they are our problem since cos they don’t play wit all their mind thereby no fighting spirit in arsenal squad but i believe wit this current squad things will turn around.
Am happy either way – win or lose, got my support cos at least a hand has been shown (finally delved into pocket without necessarilly having to break the bank) so we’re gonna try and give things a shout, even if we do end up fifth!!
Our recent defeat to Man Utd is truly a blessing in disguise for The Arsenal. I may be wrong but this is one defeat I wouldn’t mind.
wow…
i SHALL SLEEP SOUNDLY TONIGHT. THANKS !!!
Whow!!! this is brilliant, i new arsenal will end this season with at least 2 trophy bcos arsen wenger doesn’t need the best player in the world 2 boost his squad before he can win, all he need is quality and experience player that can go to the pitch and put in their experience and they win the match because arsen wenger know the stat of football all he need is someone 2 bring it up and that has been done by him after signing arteta, benayoun, metersaker, santos nd park nd others by God grace they win a lot of trophy for us.
I love how people show their excitement and happiness at the new GREAT signings AW has made, but finish their post with…. “Now all we need it Hazrd, Cahill, etc, etc, etc, in January”….. Can never please some people.
How about we wait until January, see where the team is at, THEN suggest (or hint at) whom the team should sign – if anybody at all….. We could be (not saying we will, but could be) at the top of the league, and in the quarters of Champions league.
Silly gunners!
I think in general, quite a lot of us are happy with the additions we have made to the squad in this transfer window…. The comments on additions in January is, i feel, more of a wishlist to strenghten the squad even further. I don’t think it means that we are unhappy with the current squad or we feel the additions made now is not sufficient. It’s just us fans dreaming for more after the positive moves at the end of this transfer window. See it as a greedy kid wishing for more after he got his new toy… =) Don’t think it’s a sign of us having no confident in the squad. Just look at Barca, they are regarded as the best team in the world (if we disregard the stinking attitude of their players), but they still go out and strengthen every window and their fans still wants to see new signings. I guess that’s how us fans also feel. It’s not about us having no faith but merely us hoping for more to continue to strengthen the team…..
We should thank Man utd for these signings….
Guys , you all know that Song will be in African Cup of Nation in January? and Frimpong has chosen playing for Ghana. thats why you see im keeping quite to see what can we do? in in odder to prove we are better team i hope Wenger will sign M’Villa in January, the only solution we can stay in our position, .. yes our team is good but look LIVAPOOL, CHELSEA, MAN CITY , MAN U thats 4 teams all are good enough.the whilst has start. all the teams i mentioned are front for 10 miters ,and our distance to go may be 100 miters i think you can see how tough is our league now.
M’Villa is nice and Hazard the same. M’Villa is the DM
thanks Happy Birthday to all gooners we born again
Isn’t cameroon in some trouble? Thought they are struggling to qualify for the ACN? So Song may not be heading off for a month in Jan. I am more concern with Gervinho and Charmarkh going although we are covered now with Yossi and Park coming on….
Not a marquee signing but Arteta in the Cesc role would do. But Benayoun for the past 3 years has been an impact sub, so when things are not going well for Arsenal maybe a fresh change of legs and Pow! Benayoun creates something ( remember all those times when he saved liverpool in the last 5 minutes!).
Andre Santos is a great offensive LWB but not too sure how his defending but only time will tell that. But I got a good feeling for Mertesacker, i think he may take a few games to adapt but he could be a great bargain for Arsenal!
wow ! now everybody celebrating like we just won the champions league by beating barca 5-0 with the chelsea reject scoring a hattrick !
Cahill Hazard Benzema Malouda Mvila Samba Mata etc after all the hype we got none of them???
Id have taken any of that list over what we have bought.
None of the new signings are as good as Nasri or Fabregas.
Bring on Manure, I can’t wait to see them helplessly chase the ball. I hope we will have a sweet revenge on them
I want arshavin to deliver. RVP and benayoun are injury plagued
Gooner i like ur comment,”dat we should thank man.U 4 d signins”.4 the disgrace gingered wenger to the signings.I pray wenger should maintain it.Except 4 chu young, other signings r cool.We would have gotten a vibrant striker and establishd 1 than chu young.D 1 that excites me most is Arteta’s signing-all this while arsenal have bn lackin in set pieces,Arteta will help in free kicks, shots etc.But to be honest,i will always miss my guy cecs fabrigas.
Remove Asene Wenger as your manager or Stay forever without any trophy. Thanks
player hater
its a blessing for we the gunners, thanx to MAN U, for the trashing it made this drastic up liftment for arsenal, the team will do better this season cos all the loop holes have been strenthened.i should now say SIR wnger lol for getting this promising players.cheers to all the gunners out there.one love
up gunner 4 in arsene we trust! More of dis gr8 singnings in january transfer…
In football money buy success, d like’s man -city tells me dat, i thank Arsenal has come of age! with d experience players added,we will conpetite dis time around . Gunner 4life.
I hope Park will have never die attitude like most korean player with killer instint finish like Park JS, For Santos hope to be more combative play with Gervinho at left side and Mertesacker will improve our set piece and have more vocal at the back as he is also a former captain for Werder Breman. Benayoun will give the midfield more experience and lastly Arteta will give the assist like Cesc and also cracking free kick as we only depend on Van Persie all this while.
Great to see that Arsene Wenger discarded his youth policy in favor for mature and experience players.
Just to add my 2 cents to all that has already been said,i will start with the humiliation by Man U last Sunday.Although the team has been structually deficient for some time now,i believe the trashing they got was in some way,an aberration, because, this is the same team that just a week before had qualified for the Champions League for the thirteenth consecutive year.Nevertheless,it sprung the powers at the club into action to at least attempt to address some of the deficiencies. In the recent past,we have flattered to decieve, starting the season in blazing fashion, only to fade away at the end, when it mattered most. This time around,i hope the reverse will be the case, starting slow and finishing in a blaze of glory. The departure of influencial players like Cesc and Samir are huge lossess for the club, and the inexplicable loss of form from players like Arshavin,Rosicky and Chamakh, have not helped our cause.Added to this is our poor and long record of injuries throughout the season to key players in the squad,Diaby,VanPersie,Vermaelen,Fabregas etc.Now going forward, let’s look at the new acquisitions.First,Arteta cannot be viewed as a replacement for Cesc, but as a good substitute. The same may be said about Benayoun and Nasri.Dos Santos and Mertesackr bring much needed quality and experience to our defense.Gervinho has already shown that he is a class player who could develop into great player, while Park will offer the kind of work ethic required to lift team spirit. The youngsters,Jenkinson,Miyaichi,Chamberlain and Campbell bring enthusiasm and exuberance, and are good investments for the future.Overall, not what i would regard as spectacular signings, but adequate for the time being. As for the manager, people have been calling for his departure, but i am not one of those.I still have faith and confidence in AW,and cannot imagine who would be a suitalbe replacement for him any time soon.Certainly not Martin O’neal,Rafa Benitez or any of the other out of job coaches who nobody seem to want to hire. Finally,i believe we will win one or two trophies this season,or at the very least, retain our top 4 position in the EPL.
enything abut Arsenal
Anyway ardentgoner, u might be right abt wenger,he is gud,but just dat he takes tins 4 grantd.Lets hope 4 d better dis remaining season.Pls i would want to knw u more ardentgoner.U can get me on facebk by typing Osuagwu Nnaedozie.Tanks
