Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil had a message to post on social media after pulling out of the squad to face Burnley at the Emirates stadium on Sunday.
The 29-year-old came into this season with all sorts of speculation surrounding his future after delaying the decision to extend his contract.
Following the departure of Alexis Sanchez during the January transfer window, Ozil delighted many fans by choosing to renew his deal at the club, becoming the squad’s highest paid player in the process.
The former Real Madrid star was certainly not left out of the criticism which several fans dished out after the defeat in the Europa League on Thursday.
And only a couple of days after the loss in Spain, the German left more fans concerned as he withdrew from the squad to play Burnley in Arsene Wenger’s final game at the Emirates stadium.
The German’s absence was certainly noticeable but he did manage to post a message of explanation for the fans…
It's a pity I missed yesterday's match with my back injury. It'll need some time but I'm sure I'll fully recover in time for the World Cup. Once again I'd like to thank our boss. It was an honour playing for you, Mon. Wenger! Thanks for all the memories we shared together. ?? pic.twitter.com/8VlfJjJ2EX
