Arsene Wenger has taken his search for a new central midfielder to the Italian Serie A according to speculation on Thursday.

The Arsenal manager looks set to retain his role at the club despite determined protests from certain fans calling for his departure.

Despite last summer’s acquisition of Granit Xhaka and the availability of Francis Coquelin, the Gunners have been exposed in midfield for much of this season.

Thus, Wenger is believed to considering the addition of a new face and according to the Evening Standard, Juventus star Mario Lemina is now the man being watched.

The report claims that Arsenal have identified the 23-year-old midfielder as their ‘preferred target’ heading into the summer transfer window.

Lemina is already believed to be contemplating a move away from Juventus after being handed only 15 starts by Juve boss Maximiliano Allegri so far this season.

The Italian club is apparently willing to accept an offer in the region of $25.8 million (or £20 million) for the Gabonese prospect but they are yet to receive a formal bid for the player.
