The newest addition to Arsene Wenger’s squad has revealed the reason behind his move to the Emirates stadium.
After saying goodbye to the likes of Tomas Rosicky, Mikel Arteta, and Mathieu Flamini, the Gunners were expected to bring in at least one new midfielder.
And following months of speculation, Granit Xhaka has been confirmed as the club’s first signing of the summer, strengthening Arsenal’s options in midfield ahead of the 2016/17 season.
However, the Switzerland international, who surrendered an enviable role as Borussia Monchengladbach’s captain just to become a Gunner, insists it was a conversation with Arsene Wenger which made him move.
“It was madness, he’s a legend to me.” Xhaka said
“Suddenly he is on the mobile and wants me. I will never forget his first sentence.
“He said: ‘If you want to enjoy football, you have to join us. Here is the paradise.’ He has an incredibly calm but convincing manner. It makes me proud to work under such a coach.”
