Arsene Wenger has been given new hope in his bid to retain the services of last season’s top scorer.

The Arsenal manager has witnessed his side make an erratic start to the new campaign and what has certainly not helped improve matters at the Emirares stadium is speculation which has unsettled the futures of several key players.

Alexis Sanchez, who is yet to extend his current contract, is being linked with a move away from the club as Manchester City remain in pursuit of his services.

The 28-year-old is believed to have made it clear that he is unlikely to commit his future to the Gunners.

However, the Daily Star are now claiming that Sanchez actually wants to agree a new deal with the club but only if it is a very lucrative one.

The report is indicating that the former Barcelona star is seeking a whopping new wage of £400,000-a-week, which would make him the highest-paid player in Arsenal’s history, in order to remain at the club.

Sanchez finished last season as the Gunners’ top scorer after managing to score 30 goals in all competitions.
