Martin Keown – What I told Welbeck after Chelsea game
Former Arsenal star Martin Keown has revealed what he had to say to Danny Welbeck following last Saturday’s victory over Chelsea.
Arsene Wenger chose to start the 26-year-old against Antonio Conte’s side who were deemed as heavy favourites heading into the clash.
And the decision certainly paid off as Arsenal terrorized Chelsea for much of the first half after taking an early lead through Alexis Sanchez.
Even though Welbeck failed to complete the full 90 minutes as he was substituted right after Diego Costa’s equalizer, the Englishman left quite an impression on Keown.
According to the ex-Gunner, Welbeck’s performance was almost reminiscent of a certain Arsenal legend.
“I said to Danny Welbeck afterwards that at times he reminded me of Thierry Henry,” Keown said, as quoted by Metro
“He was too quick for Chelsea and kept stretching David Luiz into those channels.
“Welbeck gave Arsenal extra energy in both directions.”
