Arsenal are said to be holding talks over a deal which will see Mikel Arteta temporary ditch one of his centre-backs, despite the fact that the squad has been hit by injuries in that area.

The Gunners are yet to make any new signings so far in the January transfer window and it appears as though the club’s latest move will be to loan out another first-team player.

According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal are in talks with Nurnberg over a deal to loan out Konstantinos Mavropanos for the rest of this season.

The 22-year-old, who has been earning £25,000-a-week wages at the Emirates stadium (Mirror), has been troubled by injuries for the last two seasons.

Despite the fact that Mikel Arteta’s options at centre-back have been reduced by the recent injury to Calum Chambers, the Arsenal boss does not seem too keen on using Mavropanos for now.

The report by the Standard further states that the Greek defender himself has entered negotiations with the German club and the loan deal could be sealed by next week.
