Arsenal are said to be keen on adding another central midfielder to the squad, following the arrival of new boss Mikel Arteta last week.

The Gunners attempted to strengthen their midfield options during the summer transfer window as a loan deal was secured for Dani Ceballos to move to north London from Real Madrid.

However, with the team still in need of quality, Mikel Arteta’s side is expected to chase a move to sign in-form midfielder Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester City.

According to the Guardian, Arsenal are keen on offering £40m plus Granit Xhaka to the Foxes with hopes of securing the signature of Ndidi.

The 23-year-old has been in sublime form this season for Brendan Rodgers’ men, who are currently sitting in second place in the Premier League table, as they continue to punch well above their weight.

Ndidi was part of the Foxes team which beat Arsenal 2-0 last month, and Rodgers was full of praise for the midfielder after the final whistle that day.

“Ndidi is absolutely key but for any team you need a good defensive midfield player that can do a lot of the dirty work as they say,” Rodgers said, as quoted by the Daily Mail

“He smells danger. He can cover the ground so fast, he can press up to the ball, he can cover in.

“Tactically he is improving and playing better. He is playing in a specific position we haven’t played before where he can run and he has got a clear role to sit and protect and be that link player.

“With the ball he is getting better. His game is simple. He just needs to serve the players in front of him and be an option to play off the centre-halves and full-backs and continuity in the game.”
