Arsene Wenger is looking to make a move to sign a new defender and he has taken his search for that target to Serie A according to emerging reports.

The Arsenal manager watched his side struggle to defend last Friday as they gave up three goals to draw 3-3 with Liverpool in a match they could have won.

Wenger, who signed the likes of Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette in the summer, could now have one more chance to salvage the Gunners’ campaign by spending next month.

And according to CalcioMercato, Arsenal have indeed made an offer to sign Mehdi Benatia from Juventus in the upcoming transfer window.

The centre-back was frequently linked with a move to the Emirates stadium during his days at Bayern Munich and Wenger appears to be back in pursuit of his services.

Arsenal have reportedly made an offer in the region of £35.5m (€40 million) for Benatia who scored for Juventus in their vital 1-0 victory over AS Roma last Saturday.

Even so, the report also claims the Italian club have turned down Arsenal’s approach for the defender and expressed their plans to not sell the player.
