Former Arsenal player Charlie Nicholas has urged Arsene Wenger to make several major moves in the transfer market this summer ahead of next season.

The Gunners are preparing for a campaign in the Europa League after failing to finish in the top four of the Premier League last season.

In addition to the signing of Sead Kolasinac, several fans and pundits have called for more spending from Wenger this summer.

But Nicholas has suggested that apart from signing high quality new players, the Arsenal boss needs to offload several stars in the current squad.

“Wenger needs to unload six or seven of the weaker players and, rather than signing more squad players, he must bring in another world-class defender, a top midfielder and a 20+ goal striker.” Nicholas said

“He needs another top midfield player with Santi Cazorla out. Raphael Varane or Virgil van Dijk would be ideal at centre-back and Alexandre Lacazette is the striker I wanted and hopefully the Atletico Madrid transfer ban means we’ve got a chance.

“We need a solution to Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil now. I think Ozil will stay but Sanchez will probably go and losing 30 goals is really damaging.”
