Arsenal are now on the verge of beating Premier League rivals Tottenham to the signing of one of Ligue 1’s brightest attacking midfielders.

With Mesut Ozil yet to renew his contract at the Emirates stadium, Arsene Wenger has felt the need to pursue other options.

AS Monaco star Thomas Lemar, who was recently rumoured to have turned down a new contract at the club because of Arsenal’s interest, is now closer to a London switch.

According to the Telegraph, the Gunners have now submitted a new offer to sign the 21-year-old who was also being targeted by Tottenham Hotspur.

The report claims Arsenal’s bid for Lemar is in the region of $38.5 million (£30 million) as they work on a deal for Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette as well.

Lemar was in superb form for AS Monaco last season, scoring 14 goals and racking up 17 assists as they won the French title.
