Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed he has been involved in ‘discussions’ with the club over transfer dealings that may happen before the window is closed this month.

The Gunners faced criticism from some fans for not addressing the need for a new striker during last summer’s transfer window.

On Tuesday night, Newcastle United visited the Emirates stadium and gave Arsenal another harsh reminder of what they are missing as Alexander Isak, a player often linked with a north London switch, put on a goalscoring show in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final.

With Bukayo Saka also injured and expected to spend quite a while on the sidelines, there is even more desperation from the Arsenal faithful about how much a new signing is needed this winter.

Speaking to the press on Friday, Mikel Arteta revealed he had indeed held discussions with the Arsenal hierachy over what business needs to be done in the transfer market.

“We always have discussions with the ones above [club hierachy] about how we can improve the team, whether the market is open or closed because you have to plan for what the necessities are right now and what they could be in a month. Those discussions are always open.” the Arsenal boss said

Arteta also emphasized the support he has received from the Arsenal board at a time of frustration for some fans.

“I have so much support from the board, and I continue to have it and we are all sitting and willing to do the same; just to win the maximum amount of football matches in the way that we want to play, and achieve ultimately the goals that we want to achieve which is to win trophies. That support to continues to be there.” he added
