Mikel Arteta has picked out one of the club’s young players as a man who is capable of featuring in three different positions under him as the Gunners look to see out what has been a forgettable season so far.

Arsenal were in action on Sunday as they took on Burnley in the Premier League, only a few days after another away fixture which had seen them defeat Bournemouth 2-1 to progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

With the likes of Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasinac still sidelined, while Bukayo Saka sweats over his fitness, Arteta has been left with fewer options to choose from in the defense as the Gunners head into the final four months of the campaign.

In the midst of all the injury worries though, the Arsenal boss has picked out Ainsley Maitland-Niles as a player who is capable of filling the void in at least three positions if necessary.

According to Arteta, the 22-year-old has the potential to feature as either an attacking midfielder or a defensive midfielder, in addition to the full-back role that he has been playing in all season.

“He can play in various positions and do really well at full-back as well.” Arteta said as per Football.London

“He’s a very useful player with great speed, technically gifted, a good passer of the ball and he can play as an attacking midfielder because he’s a threat every time with his runs.

“And he can play a holding midfielder because he’s played a lot there in his career. It’s good to have players that can play in various positions.”
