‘Put his head down’: Arteta speaks on one Arsenal star he has dropped
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed what one of the players who have lost their places in the starting eleven have to do to reclaim a spot in the the side as the run-in to the season gets underway.
The Gunners have certainly shown an improvement in their performances ever since the exit of Unai Emery, who was replaced by Mikel Arteta back in December.
The new Arsenal boss has not been afraid to make big changes to his team when needed, as he chases an unlikely finish in the top four of the Premier League.
One of the players who have lost their places in the starting eleven is Ainsley Maitland-Niles, despite playing fairly often during the early weeks after Arteta’s arrival.
The young Englishman was once again left out of the team on Monday night, with Sokratis rather playing out of position at right-back.
That was a clear sign that Maitland-Niles has lost the faith of the boss and Arteta has now called on the versatile midfielder to prove himself again in order to regain his spot.
“Ainsley needs to put his head down and work hard and show me every day in training that he wants it more than anyone else, he wants to play for this club and fight for his place.” Areta said, as per Arsenal.com
