Barcelona made bid for Fabregas yesterday

FC Barcelona’s pursuit of Cesc Fabregas has now gone from ‘informal’ to ‘formal’.

A spokesman of the Catalan club told BBC Sport that negotiations with Arsenal officially began on Tuesday.

“An informal conversation with Arsenal became formal on 1 June and now an official approach has been made to the club,”

The value of Barca’s bid was undisclosed but more to the likelihood of this transfer saga nearing an end, Arsenal FC declined to comment on the matter when contacted.

And the Spanish champions’ spokesman added:

“Before 1 June, under English rules, we could not make an official approach to Arsenal for Fabregas, but that changed on Tuesday.

“I don’t think there is a special advance on, say, the price or anything, but it has moved on now.”

Barca also revealed on their website that club director Raul Sanllehi and technical secretary Txiki Begiristain will direct their negotiations.

What was only speculation over Fabregas’ sale is now reality.

  1. If Wenger lets him go – at any price and break his contract Wenger should go – He seems to let a top player go every season. I know we have many promising guys o the waythru but not many like Fab. Mr Wegner Arsenal First Please. I have never spoke of Wegner going before but this would be a horrendous mistake and shows he has lost the Arsenal for the title etc… passion. Lawrence J Beadle

  2. wenger let him go, he want to win a tropy, replace him whit gourcourf, bourodoux milfilder.

  3. It takes two sides to negotiate. Nothing really has changed since Monday. So, Barcelona have made a fiormal approach and offer. It only becomes a negotiation if and when Arsenal respond with anything more than a ” f*** off he’s not for sale”. Nowhere near the end yet. This one will run and run unless the slimy Catalan club makes an offer Arsenal can’t refuse and coughs up in cash. Anything less would be a sell out.

  4. Cesc has been an integral part of Arsenal’s team in the last 3years.However, if he wants to leave? we should allow him to go but definately we must cash in on the best of the possible negotiation. we should not take anything less that £50m. There are lots of good players we could get for less than £20m to replace him and come to think of it, if Arsenal could get £50m from the deal, we could sure use the money to get a minimum of 4-5 very good players that could strengthen the team for the up coming season. One could never tell, this could give Arsenal an opportunity next season to take a shot at the title. No one really gave them the chance of getting to 3 spot last season and if not for bad luck occassioned by injuries to key players we wouldn’t have dropped some crucial points.

  5. If the bid is a good one i think wenger should allowed him to go bcos i can see that fabregas is desperate to leave arsenal,
