The Gunners have received praise from former Arsenal defender Martin Keown following their thumping 5-0 victory over Southampton.
Arsene Wenger’s men were expected to face a stern test at the St. Mary’s stadium where they lost 4-0 on their last visit around this time last season.
However, a dominant first-half display which was spear-headed by Danny Welbeck, a man making his first start in more than half a year, saw Arsenal wrap up the victory with a 3-0 lead by half-time.
The performance from the away side saw BT Sport pundit Keown heap praise on several players after the final whistle.
“We didn’t talk too much at half-time about Adelaide and Maitland-Niles, I thought they were excellent in there.” the ex-Gunner said during the post-match analysis
“On a night when there were six youngsters playing for Southampton, they stole the show.”
Saturday’s affair saw Granit Xhaka begin his four-match domestic suspension after the red card he received against Burnley last Saturday. But the Switzerland international was hardly missed in midfield as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and company took over the role.
“They had Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was pulling the strings in midfield.
“It was really an outstanding performance from Arsenal tonight.”
