Emerging reports are indicating that Mohamed Elneny’s transfer to Arsenal may not be announced at the expected time after problems with his work permit approval.

Arsenal and Basel have come to an agreement over a £6.5 million deal which will see the Egyptian star move to London when the January transfer window opens.

However, the midfielder is required to wait for clearance on a visa before the deal is officially sealed.

Due to new criteria in the process of granting a work permit to a player from the non-E.U region, Arsenal will have to complete more paper-work to secure the signing of Elneny.

According to a report by Sporting Witness, an issue with the work permit application may delay the 23-year-old’s transfer even though he has already completed his medical.

Chelsea faced a similar problem in the acquisition of Mohamed Salah nearly two years ago but the blues sealed the transfer after a second work permit application.

Elneny, who has registered 39 international caps for Egypt, is still expected to be unveiled as Arsene Wenger’s new signing next month.
