And leading the way is journalist and well-known Arsenal fan Piers Morgan.

Morgan’s complaint echoes the voices of many frustrated members of the Arsenal faithful who are now suggesting what was once the unthinkable – the sacking of Wenger.

Many feel the Frenchman has failed to fully strengthen his squad in the midst of six trophy-less years at the club which has seen more star players leave than arrive.

And after Manchester United ruthlessly exposed Arsenal’s problems with an 8-2 thumping on Sunday, Morgan reacted furiously on Goals on Sunday (a show which airs on American network ‘Fox Soccer’) where he called for an end to Wenger’s 15-year reign.

“There are fans who think Wenger is untouchable. Why is he untouchable? Today’s performance was shame” Morgan said.

“I have done this on twitter already – half the fans agree and half don’t – but it’s a desperate time for the club and we have to realize that we can no longer trust Arsene Wenger”

Morgan stressed that the Arsenal squad needed more British blood and when asked who he would prefer as Wenger’s replacement, the CNN employee recommended former Aston Villa boss Martin O’neill.

“The squad needs more British players with heart. Look at how six of United’s goals were scored by British players. We missed a player like Ashley Young.” he added.

“We need someone like Martin O’neill who is younger, understands the game and is British in his buying policy”
