Arsenal have new injury concerns to deal with heading into another busy week of international football fixtures around the globe.

The Gunners have often been troubled by fitness worries in recent seasons with injuries to key players often derailing the team’s title challenge; most notably in the 2007/08 campaign as Eduardo da Silva’s broken leg halted the momentum of Arsene Wenger’s side.

So far this season though, injuries have been less of a problem for Arsenal who recently welcomed back Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey from their lay-offs, leaving only Santi Cazorla, Danny Welbeck, Per Mertesacker and Lucas Perez on the sidelines.

However, the new month of November has threatened to return Wenger’s familiar woes with the news that Alexis Sanchez has picked up a calf injury while on duty with Chile.

Whether the 27-year-old will now miss the clash with Manchester United in two weeks is unclear but the Chilean Football Association confirmed today that Sanchez has a fitness concern.

“The medical corps of the Chilean national team informs the player Alexis Sanchez has a low-grade muscle injury.” A statement from the FA read

“The athlete will stay in Santiago, under treatment and evaluation, before the meeting of Chile and Uruguay.”
