David Ornstein reveals what Arsenal wanted to do before transfer deadline on Friday
David Ornstein has revealed that Arsenal actually had one more deal in mind after completing the signing of Cedric Soares before the January transfer window closed on Friday.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta inherited an underperforming squad from Unai Emery after being appointed as the man to replace the Spaniard at the club in December.
The Gunners’ new boss certainly did not splash the cash like his predecessor did last summer but Arteta was able to secure a couple of affordable deals which saw both Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares join Arsenal on loan for the rest of the season.
Despite the fact that the club appeared to be reluctant to spend, David Ornstein has revealed that Arsenal actually had an eye on one more signing before the transfer window was closed on Friday.
According to the highly-respected former BBC journalist, the Gunners had a ‘tiny chance’ of bringing in one more signing even though that target was not Atletico Madrid winger Thomas Lemar.
Ornstein also went on to reveal that the club will be targeting a midfielder in the summer.
As mentioned on @TheAthleticUK podcast at 6pm there was a tiny chance Arsenal would do 1 more piece of business (don’t know who but was not Thomas Lemar). It didn’t develop and #AFC are finished on ins and outs. Among considerations for the summer is a No6 https://t.co/9BO3iIyYGN
