Confirmation expected: Arsenal target to seal $44.9 million transfer within days, ending rumour saga
Arsenal won in the Premier League this weekend but they might have lost another battle in the transfer market.
Even though the summer transfer window ended with excitement as the signings of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez were completed, Arsene Wenger knew he had not secured all of his targets after failed moves for Gonzalo Higuain, Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez.
Julian Draxler, who joined Paris Saint-Germain at the beginning of January, also recently rejected Arsenal’s offer of a switch to north London.
And according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, the Gunners have lost another target, Kostas Manolas, who is set to join Inter Milan from AS Roma within the next few days.
The report is indicating that Manolas, the subject of strong interest from Arsenal in the past two years, has been approached on several occasions by the north London side.
However, Arsenal’s $42.8 million (£34.6 million) offer for the signing of the defender was rejected by Roma who have rather chosen to accept Inter Milan’s $44.9 million (£36.3 million) bid.
Before leaving Olympiakos to move to the Serie A in the summer of 2014, Manolas was reported to have been on the brink of having a medical at Arsenal.
