Martin Keown slams Arsene Wenger after Liverpool game
Former Arsenal star Martin Keown has criticized Arsene Wenger for his decision to leave out Alexis Sanchez on Saturday.
The Chilean international was surprisingly omitted from the Gunners starting line-up which faced Jurgen Klopp’s side.
And after watching Sanchez come on as a substitute and make a significant difference as he set up Danny Welbeck’s goal, it was even clearer that Wenger’s decision was the wrong one.
According to Martin Keown, the Arsenal manager’s big call on Saturday was difficult to comprehend.
“Wenger’s decision is stunning,” Keown said on Match of the Day.
“I can’t understand the thinking behind why Wenger wouldn’t want to play their best player.”
The pundit also went on to slam the performance of the Arsenal team who have now lost four of their last six games in all competitions.
“I’m struggling to remember a more tepid Arsenal performance in the last 20 years under Wenger.” he added
“There was a lack of spirit, fire in their bellies – they just didn’t turn up in the first half.”
