Arsene Wenger’s men have been boosted by the news that one of Tottenham’s key players will not be able to feature in this weekend’s clash at the Emirates stadium.
Both sides are heading into the north London derby well aware that any more dropped points will be detrimental to their hopes of chasing high-flying league leaders Manchester City.
Arsenal have been hit with a couple of injury blows ahead of the clash with Olivier Giroud now sidelined by a thigh injury he picked up while on duty with the French national team.
However, Tottenham have also been handed a setback following the news that Toby Alderweireld will not play a part in this weekend’s fixture due to injury.
The 28-year-old suffered a hamstring problem in Tottenham’s 3-1 victory over Real Madrid and he has failed to recover in time for the north London derby.
“Maybe after the Christmas period is the expectation. He is a little bit sad.” Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino said.
Alderwiereld, an integral part of the Spurs team, featured in every Premier League game this season before his injury.
