Arsene Wenger has been handed a major boost ahead of the January transfer window by one of the most gifted players in his squad.

The Arsenal manager has watched his team struggle to complete this season as they sit far behind league leaders Manchester City in the table and outside of the top four.

One of Wenger’s most important tasks has been to convince some of the club’s most valuable players to extend their deals at the Emirates stadium

That includes Jack Wilshere, who has produced a string of encouraging displays in recent weeks, prompting rumours that he may use that as an opportunity to find a new club in January.

However, the 25-year-old, whose contract at Arsenal expires next summer, has confirmed that he will be signing a new deal with the club.

“I definitely want to be here. I want to help Arsenal get to where they should be,” Wilshere said.

Indeed, the England international has gone as far as revealing that his deal is likely to be completed within ‘the next couple of weeks’.

“We just have to sort things out and I’m sure that will happen in the next couple of weeks and it will be sorted.”

With most fans very much in the dark over the future of key stars Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, the news of Wilshere’s imminent contract extension will be refreshing to hear.
