Arsene Wenger’s chances of retaining the services of his key attacking midfielder have been given a new boost.
The Gunners are preparing for the 2017/18 campaign which will begin in just over a month but the distraction of player contracts from last season has not been dismissed.
Mesut Ozil has continued to be linked with a move away from the Emirates stadium as he delays the decision to renew his contract which will expire within a year.
However, for the first time in a while, the 28-year-old has admitted that Arsenal is indeed the club he wants to play for.
“It is definitely my preference to stay,” the Germany international said
“Once everyone is back in London, we will sit down and discuss the future. I have always said that I feel very good at Arsenal.
“For now the most important thing is our pre-season and getting through the tour, training and getting fitness,” he added
