Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoken on reports linking him with a move for a new attacking midfielder who could potentially take the place of Alexis Sanchez.

The Gunners manager witnessed his side go a step closer to reaching the final of the League Cup for the first time since 2011 after a 0-0 draw against Chelsea in the first leg of the semi-final on Wednesday night.

Wenger’s biggest decision in that match was excluding Alexis Sanchez from the starting line-up despite the player having no signs of an injury.

As the future of the Chilean international remains uncertain, reports are now suggesting that Arsenal are looking to sign Bordeaux star Macolm as a replacement for Sanchez.

And when quizzed about the possibility of securing the services of the 20-year-old, Wenger admitted his admiration for Macolm but refused to reveal any more of his plans.

“He is a good player but nothing is happening,” the Arsenal manager told a news conference on Friday.

“We are not on that case at the moment.”
