Rob Holding has hailed the impact of the man he was teamed up with at centre-back against Chelsea.
Injuries to Shkodran Mustafi and Gabriel along with Laurent Koscielny’s suspension left Arsene Wenger in a desperate position heading into the final.
The Arsenal manager had to call upon the services of Per Mertesacker who had only featured for 37 minutes this season prior to the cup final.
And after helping Arsenal keep out the threat of Chelsea for much of the game, Holding has praised his senior teammate Mertesacker for how he performed.
“A guy like Per, who has won the World Cup, is going to make it comfortable for me,’ Holding said
“He’s a quality, quality player. We get on well and long may it continue. I’m lost for words really. I never thought I’d experience this and I’m delighted.”
