Martin Apugo, the President of Diamond Football Academy, has revealed the deal for Samuel Chukwueze to join Arsenal was actually against his wish.

The Nigerian youngster is set to sign a four-year deal with the Gunners after impressing at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile last year.

However, according to his academy representative Apugo, the transfer which is now on the verge of being completed could have collapsed if not for Chukwueze’s persistence.

“Chukwueze is still joining Arsenal, he will travel any moment from now to start training with them” Diamond Academy supremo,Apugo, told allnigeriasoccer.com.

“I didn’t want him to go to Arsenal, wanted him to go somewhere else but he said he’ll be happy if he goes to Arsenal.”

Chukwueze will not be able to sign a professional contract with Arsenal until he turns 18, but he will benefit from playing in the Gunners’ setup, especially under the watchful eye of manager Arsene Wenger.
